Having been involved in IBD patient support for about 20 years, I believe that "living safely and positively" is a crucial message to convey to patients. If one must spend time dealing with their condition, I hope they can do so with positivity and a smile. It's okay to cry loudly if it’s painful and sad. One of the goals of IBD treatment is to "extend and maintain remission periods." The primary person who understands a patient's condition best is their attending physician. Trusting the doctor and pursuing treatment is the most important thing and leads to a shortcut to remission. I believe this is true for any disease or rare illness. Besides family, the doctor also sincerely wishes for the patient's recovery. Although it's challenging to have in-depth conversations with doctors, patient communities and G Community can provide support in these times. In G Community, you can 1) ask medical experts questions, 2) exchange information with other IBD patients, and 3) access the latest information on treatment and nutrition compiled by experts. I hope as many patients and families as possible learn about and incorporate G Community into their care.
